Overview

The Kun Peak Expedition (7,077m) is a challenging and rewarding adventure designed for experienced mountaineers seeking to climb one of the most iconic 7,000m peaks of the Indian Himalayas. The journey begins in Delhi with expedition briefing and preparation before flying to Leh, the gateway to Ladakh. After acclimatization and a short trek through the scenic Markha Valley, we approach the Suru Valley and Shafat Glacier, the starting point of the climb. From base camp, we establish three progressively higher camps (C1 at 5,500m, C2 at 6,000m, and C3 at 6,300m), ferrying loads and acclimatizing as we move up. The ascent involves technical glacier travel, steep snow and ice slopes, and fixed rope sections, requiring good mountaineering skills and teamwork. The summit push offers breathtaking 360-degree views of Nun, the Karakoram peaks, and the vast Zanskar ranges. After the climb, we descend to Shafat and drive back to Leh for rest and celebrations before returning to Delhi for debriefing at the IMF. This expedition combines cultural immersion, remote trekking, and a demanding high-altitude climb, making it a true Himalayan mountaineering experience.

The climb involves negotiating glaciers, snow slopes, and steep ice sections, requiring the use of ropes, crampons, and ice axes. Each move to a higher camp is done carefully to allow proper acclimatization. Weather and conditions will determine summit attempts, with one or two days reserved for rest or bad weather. On summit day, we start before dawn to reach the 7,077m peak of Kun, where breathtaking 360° views of the Himalayas reward our efforts.
