The lake’s crystal-clear waters, framed by snow-capped mountains, create a sense of complete tranquility. We spend time resting along its shores, watching migratory birds and soaking in the stillness of this sacred place. Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Delhi and Fly to Leh (3,500m) / Duration: Flight-1-1.5 hrs

After arriving at Delhi International Airport, our team will assist you with the connecting flight to Leh, the gateway to Ladakh. The flight is incredibly scenic, offering amazing aerial views of the Himalayas. Upon arrival in Leh (3,500m), you’ll be transferred to your hotel. Because of the high altitude, it’s very important to rest today and allow your body to begin acclimatizing.

Day 2: Acclimatisation day in Leh

Today is a full day dedicated to acclimatization in Leh. We recommend light walking. For gentle activity, we may explore nearby attractions such as Leh Market, Leh Palace, or walk up to Shanti Stupa, which offers panoramic views of the Indus Valley and Stok Kangri range. Our guide will also conduct a briefing session to go over the upcoming trek and check all your equipment.

Day 3: Sightseeing around Leh / Duration: Half day

After breakfast, we set out for a short sightseeing tour to explore some of Ladakh’s cultural treasures. We begin with a visit to Shey Palace and Monastery, once the royal residence of Ladakhi kings. It features a massive golden Buddha statue and overlooks the green fields of Shey village. Next, we visit the magnificent Thiksey Monastery, built in the 15th century, perched on a hilltop and resembling the Potala Palace in Lhasa. It is one of the most beautiful and active monasteries in Ladakh. After soaking in the spiritual energy and scenic views, we return to Leh for a relaxed afternoon and prepare for the start of the trek.

Day 4: Drive up to Khardung La (5,359m) & Back to Leh / Duration: 3–4 hrs

Today we take a scenic acclimatization drive to Khardung La, one of the highest motorable roads in the world. Leaving Leh in the morning, we ascend steadily through winding mountain roads, with spectacular views of the Stok Range, Leh Valley, and far-off peaks of the Karakoram. As we approach the top, we pass fluttering prayer flags, military camps, and icy patches depending on the season. At the summit, we take time to walk around, enjoy the fresh mountain air, and capture views from this iconic pass. We return to Leh by afternoon, and the rest of the day is free to relax and explore the market.

Day 5: Drive to Rumtse (4,150m) & Acclimatization Hike to Kyamar / Duration: 2 hrs drive & 1–2 hrs hike

We leave Leh in the morning and drive southeast along the Manali highway, passing remote settlements and river valleys to reach Rumtse. This small village marks the gateway to the Changthang Plateau, where the landscape opens into rolling meadows, colorful rock formations, and dramatic mountain backdrops. Upon arrival, we take a short acclimatization hike up towards Kyamar, gradually gaining altitude to help our bodies adjust. After a gentle hike, we return to camp and rest in the peaceful surroundings of Rumtse. This day prepares us for the higher elevations ahead and allows time for final gear checks.

Day 6: Drive to Pang via Tso Kar Lake (4,480m) / Duration: 4–5 hrs

Today we drive deeper into the high-altitude wilderness of Ladakh, crossing remote plains and wild landscapes. The journey from Rumtse to Pang takes us via the beautiful saltwater basin of Tso Kar Lake. Known for its stark beauty, migratory birds, and white salt flats, Tso Kar sits surrounded by barren hills and is home to the nomadic Changpa people. We may stop for a short walk along the lake’s shore before continuing our drive through high mountain passes like Polokongka La. Arriving at Pang, a windswept campsite on the edge of the Morey Plains, we settle in for the night and prepare to begin trekking from tomorrow.

Day 7: Trek to Trakstago (4,860m) / Duration: 4–5 hrs

Our trek begins as we leave Pang and gradually ascend toward Trakstago. The terrain is dry and open, with dramatic desert-like scenery, a signature of the Changthang Plateau. We follow a clear trail along the riverbed, slowly climbing higher with wide panoramic views in every direction. Though the walk is steady and not overly steep, the elevation demands a slow and steady pace. By afternoon, we reach our campsite at Trakstago, nestled between hills and ideal for peaceful stargazing.

Day 8: Trek to Zozogong (4,890m) via Thelakung La (5,020m) / Duration: 4–5 hrs

Today is one of the most scenic and rewarding days of the trek as we cross the high pass of Thelakung La. We begin early, climbing steadily from Trakstago through rocky terrain and gentle alpine slopes. As we ascend, the views expand toward the wild and barren Changthang Plateau. Reaching the top of Thelakung La, prayer flags flutter in the wind and panoramic vistas stretch in all directions. After soaking in the views, we descend gradually toward Zozogong, a grassy and remote camping spot near a stream. The trail is peaceful, and the silence of this untouched landscape adds a sense of calm. We reach our campsite by afternoon.

Day 9: Trek to Manechan (4,760m) / Duration: 5 hrs

We continue our journey across the wild, open spaces of the Rupshu Valley, trekking from Zozogong to Manechan. The trail descends gently at first, then follows the natural contours of the hills through a dramatic high-altitude desert. Along the way, we may encounter nomadic Changpa herders with their goats, as this region is their traditional summer grazing ground. As we near Manechan, we begin to see greenery, contrasting with the surrounding brown and ochre ridges. We set up camp here and enjoy another tranquil night in nature.

Day 10: Trek to Lhatho (4,600m) / Duration: 5 hrs

Today we descend slowly from Manechan to Lhatho, crossing meadows and dry riverbeds. The route winds through gentle valleys, offering open views of distant snow-capped peaks and the ever-changing colors of Ladakh’s rugged landscape. The trek is relatively easy, allowing us to move at a relaxed pace and absorb the unique atmosphere of the high plateau. Lhatho, is a peaceful camping site with plenty of space and a small stream running nearby. After reaching camp, we unwind and enjoy the remote beauty that defines this incredible Himalayan journey.

Day 11: Trek from to Kiangdom (4,550m) / Duration: 5 hrs

Today’s trek takes us toward the breathtaking shores of Tso Moriri Lake, one of the most beautiful and sacred high-altitude lakes in Ladakh. We leave Lhatho and follow an open trail that slowly descends toward the wide plains of Kiangdom. The name refers to the kiangs, or Tibetan wild asses, often seen grazing in this area. As we approach Tso Moriri, the landscape opens dramatically, revealing the shimmering blue waters of the lake framed by snow-covered peaks. The peaceful setting of Kiangdom, on the lake’s southern edge, is one of the most magical spots in Ladakh.

Day 12: Rest Day at Kiangdom (4,550m) / Duration: Free day

After many days of trekking, today is a well-deserved rest day at Kiangdom. You can spend the day relaxing by the tranquil shores of Tso Moriri, soaking in its beauty and serenity. The lake is home to migratory birds such as bar-headed geese and Brahminy ducks, making it a peaceful haven for nature lovers. This day also helps your body fully recover before the final long trek to Korzok. With the lake changing colors throughout the day, the visual experience is ever-evolving.

Day 13: Trek to Korzok (4,500m) / Duration: 7–8 hrs

We start early today for the longest walk of the trek. The route follows the entire western shoreline of Tso Moriri, with constant views of the lake’s glistening blue waters. We pass occasional grazing camps used by nomadic Changpa families, and we may spot more kiangs and migratory birds. After a full day’s trek, we reach Korzok, a traditional village located on the northern shore of the lake. The village is home to Korzok Monastery and offers a fascinating look into the life of Ladakhi nomads.

Day 14: Drive to Leh / Duration: 8–9 hrs

We say goodbye to Tso Moriri and begin the long drive back to Leh. The route takes us through the wild plains of Changthang, past Sumdo, and over Namshang La and Mahe Bridge, eventually joining the main highway to Leh. Along the way, we pass more surreal landscapes, barren hills, grazing yaks, hot springs, and traditional Ladakhi settlements. It’s a full day’s journey, but the scenery remains captivating throughout. By evening, we arrive at Leh.

Day 15: Fly to Delhi / Duration: Flight – about 1 hr 15 mins

After breakfast, we transfer you to Leh Airport for your flight back to Delhi. As you soar over the Himalayas, take in one last view of the rugged beauty that made this journey unforgettable. On arrival in Delhi, the adventure officially concludes. Whether you return home or continue your travels in India, the memories of high passes, sacred lakes, and Ladakh’s wild beauty will stay with you for a lifetime.

Day 16: Full Day Sightseeing in Delhi

After a restful night, we set out to explore the fascinating city of Delhi, where history and modernity blend seamlessly. Our day begins with a visit to the grand Red Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that showcases the splendor of Mughal architecture. Next, we head to Jama Masjid, one of India’s largest and most beautiful mosques, where the atmosphere is vibrant and spiritual. We then wander through the bustling lanes of Chandni Chowk, soaking in the sights, sounds, and flavors of old Delhi’s lively markets. In the afternoon, we visit India Gate, a war memorial set in a beautiful park, followed by a drive past important government buildings like the Parliament House and Rashtrapati Bhavan (President’s House). We’ll also explore Connaught Place, the heart of New Delhi, where you can enjoy some shopping or relax at a café. The day offers a perfect blend of history, culture, and urban life, giving us a rich and memorable finale to our journey before departure.

Day 17: Final Departure

Today marks the end of your unforgettable journey through the beautiful landscapes of Ladakh. After breakfast, our Travel Footsteps staff will assist with your transfer to the international airport for your final departure. We hope you leave with wonderful memories of the mountains, culture, and people you encountered along the way. Safe travels and we hope to welcome you again for another adventure in the Himalayas.
