Along the way, we traverse rugged landscapes filled with colorful rock formations, vast valleys, and traditional villages where the hardy Zanskari people maintain their unique way of life. Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Delhi and Fly to Leh (3,500m) / Duration: Flight-1-1.5 hrs

After arriving at Delhi International Airport, our team will assist you with the connecting flight to Leh, the gateway to Ladakh. The flight is incredibly scenic, offering amazing aerial views of the Himalayas. Upon arrival in Leh (3,500m), you’ll be transferred to your hotel. Because of the high altitude, it’s very important to rest today and allow your body to begin acclimatizing.

Day 2: Acclimatisation day in Leh

Today is a full day dedicated to acclimatization in Leh. We recommend light walking. For gentle activity, we may explore nearby attractions such as Leh Market, Leh Palace, or walk up to Shanti Stupa, which offers panoramic views of the Indus Valley and Stok Kangri range. Our guide will also conduct a briefing session to go over the upcoming trek and check all your equipment.

Day 3: Sightseeing around Leh / Duration: Half day

After breakfast, we set out for a short sightseeing tour to explore some of Ladakh’s cultural treasures. We begin with a visit to Shey Palace and Monastery, once the royal residence of Ladakhi kings. It features a massive golden Buddha statue and overlooks the green fields of Shey village. Next, we visit the magnificent Thiksey Monastery, built in the 15th century, perched on a hilltop and resembling the Potala Palace in Lhasa. It is one of the most beautiful and active monasteries in Ladakh. After soaking in the spiritual energy and scenic views, we return to Leh for a relaxed afternoon and prepare for the start of the trek.

Day 4: Drive to Lamayuru and Trek to Shilla (3,250m)

We leave Leh behind, driving along winding roads through the Indus Valley, where barren mountains and clear skies dominate the landscape. On the way, we stop at the ancient Alchi Monastery, famous for its exquisite 11th-century murals and intricate woodwork, a true treasure of Tibetan art. Continuing, we reach Lamayuru, known as the “Moonland” for its lunar-like rock formations. From Lamayuru, our trek begins with a gentle walk along serene trails leading to the remote village of Shilla at 3,250 meters. The path follows quiet streams and open meadows where prayer flags flutter, welcoming us to this peaceful mountain world. We set up camp surrounded by majestic peaks, ready to immerse ourselves fully in Ladakh’s natural beauty and cultural heritage.

Day 5: Trek from Shilla to Hankar (4,000m)

Today’s trek takes us deeper into the heart of the Markha Valley, following the river upstream through a landscape dotted with willow trees, mani walls carved with prayers, and small chortens marking the trail. The path gradually ascends, allowing us to appreciate the dramatic mountain vistas and the peacefulness of this remote region. We arrive at Hankar, a charming village with traditional Ladakhi stone houses nestled against the towering peaks. Here, the community lives a simple, pastoral life, and the natural surroundings offer tranquility and space to reflect. Our camp near the village provides a comfortable base as we prepare for the more challenging days ahead. The connection with nature and the warm hospitality of locals enhance the richness of our trek experience.

Day 6: Trek to Shillakong (4,150m)

As we trek to Shillakong, the terrain becomes more varied and challenging. Rocky slopes give way to alpine meadows, dotted with wildflowers during the warmer months. The colors of the surrounding cliffs shift dramatically as sunlight plays on their surfaces, painting the landscape in hues of red, ochre, and gold. The peaceful isolation here is palpable, with only the sounds of distant streams and wind to accompany our steps. Shillakong, a quiet mountain encampment, provides an ideal spot to rest, reflect, and admire the pristine beauty that surrounds us.

Day 7: Crossing Yongma La Pass (4,720m) and Arrival at Kanji (3,850m)

Today marks a major milestone as we ascend to Yongma La Pass, the first of several high passes on our journey. The climb is steady, rewarding us with breathtaking 360-degree views of the Zanskar and Stok mountain ranges. The air is crisp and pure, and the sense of achievement upon reaching the summit is profound. After taking in the panoramic vistas, we descend into the tranquil village of Kanji. Nestled in a remote valley, Kanji offers peaceful solitude, traditional homes, and a welcome retreat where we can rest beneath a blanket of stars.

Day 8: Trek to Kanji La Base (4,400m)

We continue to explore the high valleys as we make our way to the base of Kanji La Pass. The route takes us through expansive alpine valleys framed by rugged cliffs and striking rock formations. The trail is quiet and remote, with few signs of human activity beyond occasional herders tending their flocks. The mountain air is crisp, and the landscapes feel untouched and wild. Reaching Kanji La Base Camp, we prepare ourselves physically and mentally for the significant pass crossing ahead, surrounded by the majestic stillness of Ladakh’s high plateau.

Day 9: Crossing Kanji La Pass (5,270m) and Descent to Kanji Sumdo (4,200m)

This day is one of the trek’s greatest challenges and rewards. The ascent to Kanji La, the highest point on our route, tests our endurance against steep slopes and thinning air. At the summit, fluttering prayer flags greet us alongside breathtaking views of snow-capped peaks and vast, rugged valleys stretching as far as the eye can see. The descent to Kanji Sumdo takes us through quiet valleys and across streams, where wildflowers bloom in summer. Camping beneath a vast, starry sky, we reflect on the majesty of this unforgettable landscape.

Day 10: Trek to Puzdong La Base (4,550m)

Today’s journey leads us through expansive valleys and traditional grazing grounds. The trail winds gently, surrounded by alpine flora and distant mountain peaks. The wide-open skies and silence offer a sense of profound peace. Approaching Puzdong La Base Camp, we prepare for another pass crossing, appreciating the remoteness and natural beauty of this high-altitude wilderness.

Day 11: Crossing Puzdong La Pass (5,020m) and Arrival at Dibling (3,850m)

Crossing Puzdong La is another exhilarating experience. The climb is challenging but steady, with breathtaking views unfolding at every turn. The descent leads us to Dibling, a small, secluded village where traditional Ladakhi life continues largely unchanged. Here, we immerse ourselves in the calm rhythms of mountain village life, surrounded by soaring cliffs and serene valleys—a perfect place to rest and absorb the trek’s peaceful spirit.

Day 12: Trek to Lingshed Sumdo (3,680m)

Today’s trek is a gentler passage through soft valleys dotted with grazing yaks and wildflowers. The terrain descends gradually, revealing subtle changes in vegetation and landscape. Lingshed Sumdo, our destination, is a quiet mountain settlement known for its natural beauty and spiritual heritage. The calm environment invites reflection and rest amid the grandeur of the Himalayas.

Day 13: Crossing Barmi La Pass (4,680m) and Arrival at Lingshed Village (3,750m)

Our final high pass crossing takes us over Barmi La, offering spectacular views of the surrounding peaks and valleys. The descent leads us to the ancient village of Lingshed, home to a historic monastery and welcoming locals. The rich cultural atmosphere here, combined with the breathtaking natural surroundings, provides a fitting conclusion to our trek. We take time to explore the village and enjoy the peaceful mountain life.

Day 14: Contingency Day

This day serves as a flexible buffer, allowing us to rest, recover, or explore nearby trails or cultural sites if the weather or group needs require. It ensures we complete the trek safely and comfortably, providing peace of mind on this remote journey.

Day 15: Drive Back to Leh (8–9 hours)

Leaving behind the wilderness, we embark on a scenic drive back to Leh. The journey offers a chance to reflect on the incredible landscapes we’ve traversed—passing traditional villages, rugged mountain passes, and vast plateaus. Arriving in Leh, we return to modern comforts and prepare for the transition back to city life.

Day 16: Flight to Delhi

After a restful night, we fly back to Delhi. The bustling capital welcomes us with its vibrant mix of ancient monuments, colorful markets, and lively streets. This day offers an opportunity to immerse ourselves in India’s rich culture and history before concluding our Himalayan adventure. Whether wandering through majestic forts, exploring temples, or savoring local cuisine, it’s a perfect finale that complements the serene mountain experience with the dynamic energy of city life.

Day 17: Full Day Sightseeing in Delhi

After a restful night, we set out to explore the fascinating city of Delhi, where history and modernity blend seamlessly. Our day begins with a visit to the grand Red Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that showcases the splendor of Mughal architecture. Next, we head to Jama Masjid, one of India’s largest and most beautiful mosques, where the atmosphere is vibrant and spiritual. We then wander through the bustling lanes of Chandni Chowk, soaking in the sights, sounds, and flavors of old Delhi’s lively markets. In the afternoon, we visit India Gate, a war memorial set in a beautiful park, followed by a drive past important government buildings like the Parliament House and Rashtrapati Bhavan (President’s House). We’ll also explore Connaught Place, the heart of New Delhi, where you can enjoy some shopping or relax at a café. The day offers a perfect blend of history, culture, and urban life, giving us a rich and memorable finale to our journey before departure.

Day 18: Final departure

Today marks the end of your unforgettable journey through the beautiful landscapes of Ladakh. After breakfast, our Travel Footsteps staff will assist with your transfer to the international airport for your final departure.
